The Alona Hotel is situated in the beautiful countryside of Strathclyde Country Park, a 4 sq km park on the outskirts of Motherwell and just off the M74. It overlooks Strathclyde loch, which hosts many water activities including the 2014 Commonwealth Games rowing events. The loch is also home to a variety of swans, geese, ducks and herons, and the walk round it is very popular. The hotel is also adjacent to M&Ds, Scotland's Theme Park, with a variety of amusements and rides, including Amazonia, a temperature controlled tropical house, home to over 60 different species, themed on the Amazon rainforest in South America.
Chatelherault Country Park is nearby, the historic hunting lodge of the Duke of Hamilton being the centrepiece of 500 acres of countryside and woodland and over ten miles of routed pathways. It features an adventure play ground, picnic facilities and a visitor centre, cafe and gift shop within the listed 18th century hunting lodge. The park offers some of the most breathtaking views across the central belt, Campsie Hills and Ben Lomond. It also features a popular Sunday market.
